Role overview
The Product Operations Lead – Domain Services enables the reliable, scalable, and compliant operation of domain products by owning cross-functional operational complexity that spans Product Management, Engineering, Support, Finance, Security, Legal, Procurement, and external partners such as registries, resellers, and vendors.
This role focuses on the continuous improvement of product-adjacent operational processes, including (but not limited to) domain lifecycle events such as registrations, renewals, transfers, suspensions and recoveries; supplier and registry onboarding and performance management; regulatory and accreditation readiness (e.g. ICANN requirements); and platform operational readiness from a product and partner integration perspective. It acts as the coordination and enablement layer, ensuring that complex, multi-team initiatives and systemic issues are aligned, prioritised, and resolved efficiently, while execution remains with the appropriate delivery teams.
The role is internally and partner facing, strategic in nature, and distinct from Service Desk, Incident Management, and Change Management functions. It does not own customer ticket handling, incident execution, or release delivery, but ensures those functions are operationally enabled and aligned from a product perspective
What you'll do
Product Operational Enablement
Define, document, and continuously improve product operational processes related to the domain lifecycle (e.g. registration, renewal, transfer, suspension, recovery).
Ensure operational readiness for new product features that require suppliers, registries, or other partner involvement.
Identify and manage cross-team operational dependencies (Product, Engineering, Support, Finance, Legal).
Act as the escalation and coordination point for complex, cross-functional operational issues that exceed single-team ownership.
Stakeholder, Partner & Supplier Coordination
Act as the single point of coordination for domain operational matters across internal teams and external partners (registries, resellers, vendors).
Manage operational relationships with registries and suppliers, including onboarding, performance monitoring, and issue coordination.
Ensure clear communication and handoffs between Product, Support, and Engineering for complex operational scenarios.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance (in partnership)
Ensure domain product operations align with ICANN policies, GDPR, and industry regulations, in partnership with Legal, Security, and Compliance teams.
Coordinate audits, accreditations, and compliance reviews from a product operational perspective.
Maintain operational oversight of registry and supplier compliance requirements (e.g. WHOIS accuracy, contractual obligations).
Incident & Risk Coordination (not execution)
Identify and assess operational risks related to domain lifecycle, partners, suppliers, or compliance.
Coordinate response to business-critical or systemic operational incidents by engaging Service Desk, Engineering, Legal, or partners as appropriate.
Track resolution of complex operational issues (e.g. registry outages, failed transactions) across teams, without owning ticket execution or SLAs.
Contribute to post-incident reviews from a process and product enablement perspective.
Process Improvement & Change Enablement
Drive continuous improvement of product operational workflows that span multiple teams.
Contribute operational input into product and process changes, ensuring readiness and minimal disruption.
Support change initiatives by aligning stakeholders and updating operational documentation, while execution follows established Change Management and release processes.
Documentation & Knowledge Enablement
Own and maintain product operational documentation.
Ensure operational processes are documented, accessible, and understood by relevant teams.
Provide enablement and guidance to Product Managers and operational stakeholders.
