Role overview
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing in-house legal, corporate, compliance, and data protection support across Ilkari’s group of companies and new investments. The role includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of technology-related agreements and supporting corporate governance, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance functions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
This is an individual contributor role.
What you'll do
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts across areas including software engineering, cloud services, data infrastructure, colocation services, web domains, sales, property, suppliers, and contractors.
• Provide proactive and timely legal and compliance support to internal stakeholders across the business, including Sales, Finance, People, Operations, Compliance, and Executive Leadership.
• Advise on and implement corporate governance, corporate housekeeping, and contract management processes.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR and relevant data protection laws, including reviewing data processing activities and implementing appropriate safeguards.
• Advise on best practices for managing Intellectual Property (IP) assets.
• Advise on regulatory matters applicable to Free Trade Zones (Zonas Francas), including operational, contractual, and compliance requirements.
• Represent Ilkari in dealings with external authorities and organizations.
• Select, instruct, manage, and monitor external legal counsel and consultants
• Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and propose and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
• Provide practical, hands-on legal support across Ilkari’s evolving business units.
• Monitor ethics and compliance concerns, and coordinate response to alleged data breaches. Maintain statutory registers, filings, and minute books in coordination with an external company secretarial service provider.
• Support the HR/People Team with advisory matters and employee-related queries.
• Promote and uphold Ilkari’s corporate values and standards.
What are we looking for
•Qualified Colombian lawyer with 5+ years of post-qualification experience, gained in law firm and/or in-house legal department.
• Demonstrated expertise in technology-related contracts, including software engineering, cloud services, data infrastructure, and colocation agreements.
• Experience in IP and trademark management, GDPR, and data privacy compliance.
• Strong commercial contracting experience across sales, procurement, property, suppliers, contractor and energy agreements (PPAs).
• Familiarity with regulatory matters applicable to Free Trade Zones (Zonas Francas), including operational, contractual, and compliance requirements.
• Prior experience working in-house or advising clients in the data centre, telecommunications, or digital infrastructure sectors.
• Strong legal drafting, research, and analytical capabilities, with a business oriented mindset and the ability to give practical, risk-based, commercially focused advice.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills; highly responsive and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-starter, able to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams (Sales, Finance, People, Operations, Compliance, Executive Leadership).
• Native Spanish speaker with professional fluency in English.
